Ancient tool grasping

Simulating ancient tool grasping in a virtual 3-D environment (in collaboration with Prof. J. Friedman, Movement Sciences Laboratory, Tel Aviv University). This project represents a multidisciplinary integration of the latest innovations in archaeology, computer science, robotics, and human movement analysis which could offer breakthroughs in the way we conceive of the optimality and functionality of ancient tools. We seek to develop a novel approach that incorporates 3-D scans of handaxes with models of hand-use to identify the optimal grasping positions and functions of these tools. This novel approach will provide new venues for reconstructing past hominin tool-use, movement and behavior.
